Style Guide: Skinny Jeans! Are they in or Are they out?

Skinny jeans used to be a fashion trend; all of a sudden people don’t talk about them anyone. It was a trend that everyone followed, then the next thing that I knew people didn’t care about it. It was like it was a trend for one day, then the next day everyone found a new trend that they follow. Many fashion designers brought them back in style, but why bring them back in style when all that people do is cared for them for one day, then they just put them back in their closet and never wear them again? When I went to the store to look for skinny jeans, the store manager told me that they don’t send them anymore, because they were not a trend anymore and also they weren’t a big hit. Only when women want to look skinny they will go buy them.

When I interviewed several women about skinny jeans only a few women came in mind for the project, cause they gave their opinion. When asked how do you feel about skinny jeans? Why? Donna Lynne explained that they are ugly pants, I don’t know why they brought them back out, and nothing goes with skinny jeans. Tiffany Rose claimed that the reason why they are back in style is to make girls look then, and they do not make you thin, they make you fat. Katie Miller stated I don’t know why women have to themselves to extreme to make themselves look good, just put on some regular jeans and you will be just perfect, no need to go buy skinny jeans, cause hello, they are not in style, they were never in style.

When I started to do research on skinny jeans, it led me to a survey about how many girls like these pants, about 60 percent of the survey, girls claimed that the reason they like them is because celebrities wear them. One girl that I interview about skinny jeans, Angel Mari claimed that they are not worth buying, everyone follows celebrity and personally, I think people should have their own style, and not be a follower, 25 percent claimed that they don’t want to waste their money on something like that, they don’t go with nothing, 10 percent claimed that they don’t care for something like that, and 5 percent claimed whatever to the question. When I ask older women about skinny jeans, some say they are glad they are back in style, while some say they don’t really care for them. Lynne stated that she never liked skinny jeans, cause they will give you a cameo toe, she also stated when they came to the stores she just ignored them, cause I do not like them.

When I was during my research I found that skinny jeans came out in 2006, and already they are out of style. When I brought some, I put them on, and I wore them outside, as I walk down the street, everyone started to look at me funny. Then I realized what was going on, it was the pants that I was wearing, one girl told me that they weren’t in style anymore, I told her why she stated everyone found a new trend. Then I started to walk down the street again, I heard one girl tell me to take off those pants. I wore those pants for a whole day, and I was getting bad complaints about wearing them. I don’t know why. They were just pants.

When I ask why were people so mean to me when I put on skinny jeans?

Angel Mari, claimed that the reason why people get so mean when they see other people wear clothes that are not in style anymore is because they expect them to follow the trend that they are going for. She also stated the reason why people were mean to me is because I was supposed to follow the trend that they were going for. Rose stated that people shouldn’t get mean to other people when they are following their own style, everyone has their own style, and they should, not follow everyone else trend. Lynne claimed that I wasn’t supposed to wear those pants cause people were expecting more from me, not fall into a lope hole of ugly pants. Miller stated that who cares if you like it go for it, who cares if people be mean to you if they don’t like it, that their problem is not their money that buying your clothes, you are.

Skinny jeans originated in 1950, with popular females from Aubrey Hepburn to Sandra Dee. According to Wikipedia, skinny jeans returned to prominence in the 2000s, beginning to be frequently stocked in U.S. stores in 2006. They didn’t become in style until Nicolas Ghesguiere, Karl Lagerfeld, and Stella McCartney, showed them on the runway for two seasons. Kate Moss has been credited with the inspiring trend. Soon everyone heard about them and they had to go and buy them. They used to be something that everyone talks about, not anymore.  Miller stated that when she went to school last year, the first day of school, she saw every girl wearing them, then the next day nobody was wearing them, they weren’t in style anymore. She also stated when I ask a girl about them, she said what pants. It was like she didn’t even know what I was talking about.

According to Lynne, she stated that back in the 80’s she wore those pants and that she hated how they made her look, she also stated that she was glad that she kept her bell bottoms, cause she loved the way they made her look. Rose and Payne both agree with Lynne, they like bell-bottoms better than skinny jeans. Rose stated that they don’t make you look fat like skinny jeans do. Skinny jeans are for people who are bones, not for people who have extra baggage hanging over their pants. Mari stated that she likes her own style and that she won’t go out and waste her money on something that she won’t wear. She said if I like it, then I buy it, until then I will not waste my money on something like that.

Miller also agrees with Mari. Miller stated that I would not follow people with the trend that they are going for; I have my own trend and that is called being me, not anybody else.

The question is why are skinny jeans back in style? When I ask that question, Lynne stated that she don’t know, cause they weren’t a big hit when I was wearing them in the ’80s, Most people that I was friends with hated those pants as much as me. So I don’t know why designers have to bring them out. Mari stated that she won’t wear those pants for all the tea in China, not even if someone pays her, I will not wear those pants, just because of someone else, no way, I don’t think.

Skinny jeans are slim fits that have a snug fit through the legs and end in a small leg opening. When I did my experiment on wearing skinny jeans, they felt funny to me, cause I wasn’t used to wearing them. They felt like every other pair of jeans that I wore, but they felt different. They were okay to wear, but I won’t wear them again, cause they are not my style. When I was wearing them and having all the intentions on me, it felt weird cause that has never happened to me before, and I didn’t like it. It was okay; cause it felt like I was a celebrity and having everyone staring at me felt weird, but it was fun doing the experiment.

Who else is going to bring skinny jeans back in style? Will they be a big hit? Will they have their own flare to the style? Many fashion designers follow each other, and each fashion designer brought back skinny jeans, in the same fabric, in the same style. When I saw that skinny jeans were coming back in style, I said to myself why, cause they are ugly pants and nothing goes with them. So I went and brought a pair of skinny jeans, they were hard to find, I said to myself, okay this will be a fun project to do, then when I put on the pants, and when everyone told me to take the pants off, I felt totally humiliated, cause I never had that happened to me before.

According to Lynne, Rose, Miller, and Mari, they all had something in common; they all say that fashion designers should never bring them back out. Cause they were not worth the money you pay for them. Cause what people do is they will just put them in the back of their closet and leave them there. They will get ruined. Skinny jeans made once been in style, will they be in style again.
