Ask Alexis: I'm Single! Where Do I Meet People?

I love how you guys come up with these questions that keep me on my toes. When I decided to bring Ask Alexis to the site, I wasn’t sure if I would get any response so here I am, answering all your questions that get sent to my inbox. I never thought that I would be answering personal questions from you.

Hi Alexis! I’ve been dealing with depression for a while now. I’m single and I would like to know how to meet people. All my friends are seeing someone. When I go out with them, I feel like I am babysitting and I need help!

Relationships are something that comes with time and patience. Your friends are not doing anything to make you feel uncomfortable, they are just including you so you won’t feel left out. When meeting someone, it takes time and patience.

My first piece of advice? Be patience. Take a breath. Be calm. Go to social events, where you can meet people. See if anyone is alone and chat with them. Talk about the event. Introduce yourself, and say your name, only your first name. If the person is uninterested. Walk away and start over with someone new. Don’t give up. Keep going. You came this far.

My second piece of advice, go to the bar if you have to strike up the conversation first if the other person hasn’t. Standing or sitting there won’t do you any good. If the person is uninterested, walk away, but just know this, they are probably shy. This might be their first time coming into the social field like you. So be patient, be calm, and always breathe. The person you are looking for hasn't crossed paths with you. They probably are pulling what you are doing, afraid, and don’t want to get heartbroken, I believe that is alot of us.

My third piece of advice, try dating sites, sometimes that does work. Sometimes it does not. I think it is time for you to try a little harder if nothing is working. To be honest, I think we all need to try a little harder to meet people and to find someone that is willing to put effort into the relationship. All I can say is take time. Love will find and hoping that it will find you sooner than you know.

Did you have a hard time finding someone? How did it work out?

Please leave in the comments what your experience was.

xoxo  Alexis
